  Dr. Richard Howells

  After 40 years of practice, the fact that each day still proves to be interesting and challenging never ceases to amaze me. Throughout my years in dentistry, I have exhibited a singular commitment to answering the call to service: early in my career as a dentist for the Navy, then undertaking additional training in orthodontics, and eventually becoming board certified in that specialty. Spending my life as an orthodontist has truly been “living the dream.” EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Doctorate of Dental Surgery – West Virginia University School of Dentistry, 1968 US Navy dentist – 1968 to 1970 Master of Science in orthodontics – West Virginia Orthodontic Training Program, 1973 I have served in leadership roles in professional organizations, and have donated my time and talents to provide dental care on more than ten mission trips to Honduras through Propapa, a nonprofit organization, as well as missions to the Dominican Republic and Romania.   It is a privilege to be part of this profession, and that comes with great responsibility to treat my patients with kindness and respect to the best of my abilities. Our practice has worked hard to make visits fun, convenient, and affordable. I have learned so much from my patients, and take great satisfaction in seeing so many of “our smiles” in the community. It is a blessing to be able to be such a positive part of our patients’ lives, and it is very enjoyable to follow where their lives lead them. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Undergraduate degree – Juniata College Doctorate of Dental Surgery – West Virginia School of Dentistry, 1994 Master of Science in orthodontics – West Virginia University orthodontic department, 1997 As an orthodontist, my dedication to better the lives of young people goes well beyond the day-to-day duties of our orthodontic practice. My commitment to my patients includes continual post-doctoral training to add to my expertise. Much of my current continuing education has focused on technology and how we can make orthodontics easier, more efficient, and cost-effective for our patients. My wife Cindy and I have two daughters, Sydney and Lexie. I am actively involved in coaching girls’ youth basketball and softball, and can usually be found on the court or field with my kids. I am also active with Crossroads Bible Church in Bedford, PA.

  I love being an orthodontist. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people, and the friendships that I’ve built with my patients and their families are one in a million. It has always been my focus to make each patient feel at home when he or she comes to me for treatment, and I work hard to give my patients the attention they deserve. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE My education in dentistry and orthodontics has provided me with a strong foundation of knowledge and experience. Before becoming an orthodontist, I received the following degrees: CONTINUING EDUCATION By regularly participating in continuing education, I am able to stay current on the latest technology and orthodontic treatments. My patients deserve the best, and continuing education allows me to provide them with more options and better results. I am a member of several professional associations that provide me with opportunities for continuing education. COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY I am truly blessed to live and work in such a wonderful community. I enjoy getting to know my patients and their families, and it is always such an honor to know that I have made a difference in so many of my patients' lives.
